However, recently, many users who use Caterpillar diesel injectors (injector) with part numbers 0R-0471, 0R-3190 (general part numbers 0R-3002, 0R0471) have reported that the fuel filter is often blocked, leading to damage to the injector. Reporters conducted an investigation to understand the relationship between fuel filter blockage and injector damage.
Mark Johnson, the owner of a construction company in Florida, told reporters that his company has 8 Caterpillar excavators, all equipped with 0R-3190 injectors (general part number 0R-3002). In the past three months, 3 of these excavators have had injector damage, and the maintenance cost has reached more than $10,000. "After the maintenance technician inspected, it was found that the fuel filter was severely blocked, and the impurities in the fuel entered the injector, causing wear and damage to the injector," Mark said. He said that he did not pay attention to the replacement of the fuel filter before, which led to this problem.
Paul Davis, a senior maintenance technician at a Caterpillar authorized maintenance station, explained that the fuel filter of Caterpillar 0R-0471 and 0R-3190 injectors (general part numbers 0R-3002, 0R0471) is divided into primary filter and secondary filter, which are responsible for filtering large and small impurities in the fuel respectively. "If the fuel filter is not replaced regularly, the impurities in the fuel will accumulate in the filter, leading to blockage," Paul said. When the fuel filter is blocked, the fuel supply pressure will decrease, and the impurities will bypass the filter and enter the injector, causing wear to the needle valve, nozzle hole, and other components, and even leading to injector damage.
