Susan Brown, a professional maintenance technician at a local agricultural equipment maintenance station, explained that the seal ring of Caterpillar 0R-0471 and 0R-3190 injectors (general part numbers 0R-3002, 0R0471) is made of rubber material, which will age and harden after long-term use in high-temperature and high-pressure environments, leading to cracks and loss of sealing performance. "The seal ring is responsible for sealing the connection between the injector and the engine cylinder head. If the seal ring ages, fuel will leak from the gap, resulting in fuel waste and increased fuel consumption," Susan said. In addition, fuel leakage may also cause fire if it comes into contact with high-temperature components of the engine.
Susan showed reporters the aging seal ring disassembled from David's tractor injector. The seal ring was hard and brittle, and there were obvious cracks on the surface. "This kind of aging seal ring can no longer play a sealing role, so fuel leakage will occur," Susan said. She also pointed out that the working environment of agricultural equipment is relatively harsh, with more dust and moisture, which will also accelerate the aging of the seal ring. In addition, failing to maintain the injector regularly, such as not cleaning the injector in time, will also affect the service life of the seal ring.
