REPORT (Reporter: Daniel Brown) Many users of Caterpillar diesel injectors (injector) with part numbers 0R-0471, 0R-3190 (general part numbers 0R-3002, 0R0471) have reported that their injectors have failed prematurely, and the main reason is long-term overload operation of the equipment. Reporters interviewed users and professional technicians to understand the impact of overload operation on the service life of injectors.
James Wilson, a truck driver who transports goods in the southwest region, told reporters that he drives a Caterpillar heavy-duty truck equipped with 0R-3190 injectors (general part number 0R-3002). In order to deliver goods on time, he often overloads the truck, and the injector of the truck failed after only 8 months of use. "The maintenance technician told me that the long-term overload operation caused the injector to work under high pressure and high temperature for a long time, leading to premature wear and failure," James said. He regretted not paying attention to the load limit of the equipment.
Jennifer Davis, a professional maintenance engineer at a Caterpillar maintenance service center, explained that Caterpillar 0R-0471 and 0R-3190 injectors (general part numbers 0R-3002, 0R0471) are designed with a certain load range. If the equipment is overloaded for a long time, the fuel injection pressure and temperature of the injector will increase significantly, which will accelerate the wear of the needle valve, nozzle hole, and other components, and even lead to the failure of the injector.
"When the equipment is overloaded, the engine needs to output more power, which requires the injector to inject more fuel in a short time," Jennifer said. "This will increase the working pressure of the injector, and the high temperature generated by the combustion of a large amount of fuel will also affect the service life of the injector's internal components." In addition, overload operation will also cause the engine to overheat, which will further damage the injector.
